Vermilion Law Director

The Director of Law is the head of the Law Department and the chief legal officer of the Municipality. He is appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the members of Council, and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor. He serves the Mayor, the Council, the administrative departments and the officers, boards and commissioners of the Municipality as legal counsel in connection with municipal affairs, and, subject to the direction of the Mayor or the Council, represents the Municipality in all proceedings in court or before any administrative board. He performs such other duties, consistent with his office, as may be required by the City Charter, by ordinance of the Council, or as directed by the Mayor.No person shall act as Director of Law unless duly admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio. Council provides for such assistants and special counsel to the Director of Law as shall from time to time be deemed to be necessary. Neither the Director of Law nor his assistants nor any special counsel is required to reside in the Municipality.
