New Signs Enhance Historic District
The new signs have an historic dark brown background with gold borders and a gold Vermilion schooner. The Historical Society felt it was important to upgrade the signs and to remind residents and inform visitors of the rich history of the downtown area.
The signs were installed by Vermilion Historical Society members Bob Reese, Glen Cutcher and Chuck Worcester.
Funds for the signs were made possible by the sales of the Historical Society’s annual calendar. The 19th edition of the calendar, Our Lighthouse – Shining Brightly through the Decades, features photos and history of the various lighthouses that stood at the entrance of the Vermilion River guiding the sailors on Lake Erie. Calendars are available for purchase from the Vermilion History Museum and Brummers Chocolates.
The Vermilion Historical Society, formerly known as the Vermilion Area Archival Society, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year continuing its mission to gather and preserve historical materials of the Vermilion area and to promote and celebrate Vermilion’s heritage.
